Subramaniyapuram...

Subramaniapuram is a film which didnt have great pre-release expections or great opening but still is doing a fair at the box office. It revolves round the 80's environment nd speaks abt the youth. This film's youth doesnt include the colorful college gals, funky locations or high budget song sequences. It shows the unemployed youth around the madurai locality. The film seriously depicts the strong friendship, simple love nd the betrayal of both. The film has a very unique team of technicians nd have turned successful with their experiment.

The film begins with a murder in the door steps of the central prison. Then moves into the flash back which describes the life of 5 friends who just while away their time by booze nd making a fool of themselves nd spend their life opp to an ex-councillor's house. The first half moves around the strong friendship between Azhagar(Jai) nd Paraman(Sasi Kumar) nd the tendor love between Azhagar nd Tulsi(Swati). Ganja Karuppu has provided some promising comic relief along with a strong character role.

The slow moving life of Azhagar nd Paraman make a sudden undistinguishable twist when they were sentimentally attracted by the ex-councillor's brother to murder the current councillor to make his brother get de post once again. They both get furious when they were not taken in bail as promised. This invokes them to commit a few third rated cold blooded murders. How Azhagar nd Paraman were betrayed nd murdered occupies the rest of the storyline.

The set has raised a typical madurai environment nd the slang has gone in very handy. The contribution from various other artists in the film like Azhagar's mother nd few more hav not been supportive in expressions during inevitable situations.

Jai has shown a great maturity in acting wen compared to his earlier venture Chennai-28. The non-colloquy acting expressed by Jai when he knows dat he was betrayed by his love interest leading to his assassination was immaculate. Swati has done her role in a unblemished manner on her debut in kollywood. Ganja karuppu's betrayal in the end was totally a surprise element of the movie. Sasi Kumar has handled both the acting nd direction to a good extend. The cinematography also attains appreciation on various occasions. The music is by James Vasanthan, who has hosted various tv shows in Sun TV. His work is considerable on a couple of tracks nd in the re-recording part of the movie.

Nevertheless, Subramaniapuram is a decent work by the team. Ppl who r allergic watchin few onscreen gory murders can better avoid this movie.

Negatives:
1. Role of supporting actors, which eventually turns out non-supporting.
2. Third rated, gory murders with the local weapon.

Positives:
1. Characterization of different artist.
2. Art work nd tamil slang.
